Create Text Overlay Watermark with Photoshop

Overlay Text Watermark

This is step-by step tutorial to create overlay text or logo to your image for publish on web using photoshop layer style. Watermark in this tutorial is design to place and overlay at the center of your image (optionB). This will very difficult to remove but it may be distract some part of your image. We also have other tutorial that create text watermark to be place at the corner (option A) here.

To create watermark:

  1. Open image that you want to embed watermark. Using menu File » Open or Ctrl (Command) + O
  2. Select Type Tool Photoshop Type Tool in Photoshop toolbox and type in your text.

    You have 2 options to select font style, font size and font color.

    Tool option bar: The tool option bar locate at the top of the screen below main menu bar. If you didn’t see it unhidden it by using menu window > option.

    Character Palette : Have more option to setting your font. Unhidden it by using menu Window » Character.

    For now you don’t have to worry about your text color. Just adjust font face and size. You can also use Move tool Photoshop Move Tool (V) (V) to positioning your text.

    After you use type tool it will create new Text layer that you can edit you text later.

  3. Set Fill opacity at the top right of layer palette from 100% to 0%. Now the text in your image seem to disappear.

  4. With text layer select using menu Layer » Layer Style » Bevel and Emboss and use following setting or click thumbnail below to see setting screen shot.Style: Outer Bevel, Depth: 100%, Direction: Up, Size: 4px, Soften: 0px, Angle: 120, Altitude: 45, Highlight Opacity: 60%, Shadow Opacity: 50%.

That’s it you can play with layer style by try various setting to get your own result below is sample of different Bevel and Emboss style. Or you can use style preset that come with photoshop, access by style palette. You can find how to use style preset at Create Text Watermark here
