I assume that you know how to capture your screen really fast and free, if not you can find it here. For now the resolution of captured image is depended on you screen resolution. Most of the time its resolution will not fit to your layout. You have many option to make your image resolution fit to your need.

  1. Change your monitor resolution and re-capture.
  2. Use Photoshop to transform your image by press Ctrl(command) + T . It’s a short cut for Free Transform (menu Edit > Free Transform).
  3. Use Photoshop to Image Size your captured image. By menu Image > Image Size…

Here is example result, I will Skip the first method (because it’s quite silly).

Captured image re-sample up by 500% using Image Size and Free-Transform

The Orginal image resolution is 1024 x 768 and re-sample by 500%. You will notice that both method are produce similar result. It’s both produce blurry image (This is quite extreme example, in real life you will need to expand at most 250%). This may use sharpen filter or Unsharp mask to make it look better for a bit and may okay. But if you are perfectionist, I have another method with better result and without apply any filter.

The method that produce best result is to use Photoshop Image size with a little adjustment. In image size windows you have to select other interpolation method (the default is Bicubic) change it to Nearest Neighbor. That’s it!

Photoshop Image Size Window

This trick also work best when you have to resize vector image (for ex. Illustrator Image). And I recommend you to always use Nearest Neighbor interpolation to resize vector image, unless you need blurry result.

Captured image re-sample up by 500% using Bicubic and Nearest Neighbor
The default interpolation method (bicubic) is working best for most of the raster image for 110% of time you don’t have to change it. The other interpolation method are for other specialty need or for special result. You may want to test the different method to see its effect or read more on image size here.

But remember, The image quality are poorer each time you re-sample it (both for free transform or image size). So if the image quality is your concern. If possible try to make it once, or re-sample it from original image.
