This photoshop tutorial will show you, how you can use photoshop layer to edit and compose images by keeping original content. This tutorial will use professional technique called non-destructive image editing. Which mean we will edit the image without altered any of the original content.
This technique is extremely useful if you are not only one who judge how the final image will be look like. Mostly in professional commercial studio also have to dealing with other judge like Art director, Creative, Client or even your boss.
Imagine what happen if you have one product shot on table and your order is to change the background to white. So you extract it and fill color to the background then continue to clean up the image, adjust the color and etc. Then next day your client decide to change their mind to have their product on the table, so what you have to do?
You have to find that original product shot on the table, if you smart enough to keep it, and then clean up the image again, adjust the color again and etc. for couple of hour. Again! If you can remember all steps you have done and a little luck, you will have the image of the product shot similar to the one you have done on the white background.
This technique is not only allow to go back anytime if anything go wrong but also allow you to edit any part in your working process easily. Or even easily create another version of your final image.
With photoshop layer you can stack each part of the image and combine it in to your final image. With each part in separate layer you can move or edit each part of image independently.
