New 2008 freetimefoto.com improvement

In this year freetimefoto.com team have been working hard to improve our site quality to achieve our goal to be a complete photoshop resources for both beginner and also advance photoshop user. We already add many new features and also some improvements to our website.
First of all we successfully upgrade our content management system to earliest version. Now we are running using Wordpress 2.3.2.

We also change our home page layout. To remove some of duplicated post link and compacted the page size. This change will be apply to each main category page as well. This will allow our website to load faster. If you visit us regularly you may also notice that, our site wide design also slightly change. We already add new page background to add some boundary to all pages.

The new freetimefoto.com features

As you may notice that some of our tutorial become very long long story. One of the reason is, we are agree to not split one content in to many pages. We love to scroll down though the page instead of click the link to continue reading the same content. So we hope you might love it too. And also the basic detail that we put in each step in our tutorial because the goal for freetimefoto is for everyone not only photoshop user but also people who want to learn photoshop. We also believe that some of the very basic detail are also useful for some of the advance photoshop user as well.

Lightbox

To save some of our page space, we already use lightbox for awhile. The lightbox is little java script that used to overlay images on the current page. The script is incredible, it can save our page space as well as greatly save our page loading time while maintain our tutorial quality. We can show smaller image in the page, by cropping only very important part or decrease the image resolution. Both will absolutely loosing some detail that we like to explain in our tutorial. But the visitor also have option to click on image to view larger image in the section that they feel they want more detail with out leaving the page. You can click on image below for the demo.

More over this script also allow us to show image in the same series as slide show. If the image is in the series, when you move your mouse over, you can click next at the top right of the image to move to the next image.

Only drawback for this script that I found is, if user click on image link before the page successfully load, it will show the image in new separate web page. So please be patient to wait until our page load completely to use the lightbox.

Switch Content

We also added another java script to toggle the paragraph. This will allow you to collapse or expanded the detail explanation. Most of the paragraph that we put in collapseable block is the part that we put the detailed explanation or some detailed on how to achieve in each step of our tutorial. We think this might not be necessary for advance photoshop user. So only the visitor who feel that what we doing and need more explanation could expanded the paragraph by click the small arrow (). You can click the little arrow to see demo. [Show Detail]

We will first add this script in our layer tutorial and will continued apply to some of our published tutorial as well.

Free Download Section

Lastly, we are currently develop new photoshop download section that will include free photoshop addin download resources. That will include Photoshop brush, action, style, filter & plugin, shape preset and more.
This free resources are from our favorite items that we have been collect and some is in house develop as well as submitted by users. So we will provide submit page that allow you to submit your favorite photoshop content as well. This section will be in separated freetimefoto.com sub-domain. The download.freetimefoto.com is schedule to launch in March 2008.
