Canon Digital Camera Technology Logo Canon produces a wide variety of digital cameras, ranging from the compact point & shoot ELPH series to their professional digital SLRs line. Canon digital cameras receive consistently high ratings from consumers who are impressed by their solid construction and high-quality images. Their are no doubt that, part of this success, are from their invented cutting-edge digital camera technologies. Most of them are become standard feature for all new digital camera today.

You may notice that their mostly have little logo attached to the camera package, in their brochure or even sticked to camera body itself. All this logo can tell you about the new technology that included in that brand news digital camera. On this page you can view brief explanation for each of those canon digital camera technology.

DIGIC III

Canon DIGIC 3 logo Canon’s DIGIC III (DIGital Imaging Core) image processor manages all of the camera’s primary functions to optimize operating efficiency. Advanced image processing algorithms deliver superb image detail and color reproduction with accurate white balance. High-speed processing results in outstanding responsiveness, rapid auto focus and extended continuous shooting ability. DIGIC III also powers advanced Noise Reduction Technology and Face Detection Technology.

Face Detection Technology

Canon Face Detection Technology logo Canon’s Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB system automatically detects up to nine faces within a frame before adjusting the focus, exposure, flash and white balance to ensure optimal results. It is able to determine which faces are intended to be the subject, instantly reverting to the partnering 9-point AiAF system if no face is detected as the primary subject. Auto Red-Eye Correction integrates with Face Detection Technology to remove red-eye during shooting or playback.
Face Select and Track lets the user highlight one face among several in a scene, and the camera concentrates on that person, even as they move around the scene. Face Detection Technology is a powerful contributing factor in Canon’s new Motion Detection Technology.
  • Face Detection AF/AE: sets the focus point (AF) and exposure (AE) for the faces of your subjects.
  • Face Detection FE: adjusts the flash to correctly illuminate your subject to provide the best balance between your subject and the overall scene, eliminating the common problems of over and underexposed faces.
  • Face Detection WB: (white balance) the camera concentrates upon faces when calculating white balance for the best possible skin tones.

**The Canon’s Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB are available only in latest PowerShot digital camera model SD890IS (IXUS 970IS), SD790IS (IXUS 90IS), SD770IS (IXUS 85 IS ), SD1100IS (IXUS 80IS), A590IS, A580 and A470. The earlier model may include only Face Detection AF/AE or Face Detection AF/AE/FE.

Motion Detection Technology

Canon Motion Detection Technology logo Canon’s Motion Detection Technology uses several methods to detect camera and subject movement and set exposure accordingly. The brightness of subject and background, movement of the subject (based on comparison of frames over time) Face Detection information and camera shake information from the optical Image Stabilizer (IS) gyros (where available) are all taken into account. Where motion is detected the camera automatically selects the appropriate ISO level between ISO 80-800 to achieve a shot with minimal noise and blur.

iSAPS

Canon iSAPS logo iSAPS (Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space) automatically optimizes key camera settings before every shot. Each scene is analyzed and cross-referenced against Photographic Space – a vast in-camera library of photographic data. This enables the camera to make optimal adjustments to auto exposure, auto focus and auto white balance before image capture occurs. Canon iSAPS technology will improves the performance of AF (Auto Focus), AE (Auto Exposure), and AWB (Auto White Balance).

Enhanced optical Image Stabilizer

Canon Optical Image Stabilizer logo Canon Enhanced Image Stabilizer (IS) system can detect and correct slight camera shakes that can cause image blur. The IS now delivers a 4 stop advantage for improved performance in low-light conditions, when shooting at the telephoto end of the lens and when vibrations are more severe. The new IS also features increased sensitivity to low frequency vibration, such as the rocking of a boat. Minute vibration gyros detect camera movement caused by hand.

PureColor LCD II screens

Canon PureColor LCD II screens logo Canon’s PureColor LCD II screens offer a number of benefits over conventional LCD screens, including improved color contrast for enhanced visibility, a wide viewing angle for easy shooting and instant image sharing, anti-glare coatings for viewing under bright light, and anti-scratch coatings.

Digital Tele-Converter and Safety Zoom

Canon Digital Zoom logo Similar to placing an accessory lens on the front of the camera, Canon’s Digital Tele-Converter adds a constant zoom to every shot – 1.4x or 2.3x depending on the image size selected. While optical converter lenses cause a reduction in aperture and consequently require a slower shutter speed, the Digital Tele-Converter maintains aperture size, reducing the risk of image blur.
Safety Zoom protects the image from interpolation at high levels of digital zoom, allowing users to extend zoom magnification without sacrificing image quality.

UA Lens

Canon UA Lens logo Canon’s UA Lens (Ultra High Refractive Index Aspherical Lens) is a Canon exclusive: a glass-molded Aspherical lens with an ultra high refractive index that delivers bright, clear shots. This special glass allows a compactness unusual in a wide-angle lens, contributing to the S60’s impressively slim profile.

Red-eye Correction

Canon Red-eye correction logo Canon’s Red-Eye Correction, can now remove red-eye automatically as the user shoots. This was done in camera’s software (Not Red-eye Reduction, that use built-in lamp to shine continuous white light directly at your subject for about two seconds, prior to the picture being taken). The cameras will automatically correct red-eye during playback for both regular and flash photography. You can access the Red-eye Function under the Play Menu of your Canon Digital Camera settings. In unusual cases where red-eye is not automatically detected, it can easily be corrected manually during playback mode from the LCD screen. Up to 35 frames can be added.

PictBridge

Canon PictBridge logo PictBridge is an industry standard established by CIPA that enables a range of digital photo solutions including direct photo printing from a digital camera to a printer without the need of a PC.
Previous direct print solutions been developed by manufacturer’s using their own proprietary technology and as such these solutions have been limited to combinations of certain products.
PictBridge enables users to directly print beautiful images from any PictBridge compliant digital camera to any PictBridge compliant printer with PictBridge logo or logo marks regardless of the manufacturer.
Canon, being at the forefront of Direct Print technology, will proactively offer a full range of PictBridge products covering digital cameras, digital video camcorders, dye sublimation printers, inkjet printers and inkjet multi function printers.

EXIF Print

Canon Exif Print logo Exif Print (Exif 2.2) is the worldwide printer independent standard for digital image processing. Under Exif 2.2, the digital still camera can record data tags for specific camera settings and functions such as whether the flash was on or off, if the camera was in landscape, portrait or night scene mode, etc. Referencing some or all of this information, an Exif Print compatible application can process digital camera images intelligently based on specific camera settings and the shooting environment.
Canon, being at the forefront of Direct Print technology, will proactively offer a full range of PictBridge products covering digital cameras, digital video camcorders, dye sublimation printers, inkjet printers and inkjet multi function printers.
